Rhys Excels in Automotive Work Placement

16 year old Rhys Moore has the long-term goal of becoming an Automotive Engineer. In commitment of this, Rhys has been accepted into Shrewsbury College in September 2023 to complete his full-time course in Level 1 Transport Maintenance.

After sitting his GCSE’s in May/June 2023, Rhys started his placement at Wilsons Auctions Telford at the beginning of July. Working on average 3 days a week, fulfilling full-time hours, Rhys has been busy picking up skills amongst the Yard Operatives.

Rhys has gained new skills in relation to:

  • Washing and preparing vehicles for auction
  • Livery removal
  • Yard and valeting bay maintenance
  • Developing a full understanding of health & safety in the workplace

Rhys will continue to develop his skills further by job shadowing the vehicle inspectors and produce images for marketing purposes.

Rhys went on to explain more about his experience this summer, “I am extremely grateful to Wilsons Auctions for offering me the opportunity to gain experience in the workplace environment. The team have been so welcoming, offering training and guidance to help me to develop the skills of a Yard Operative.”

“Every day is different, and I really enjoy seeing the variety of stock going through the Auction. It is really satisfying to see a vehicle parked in the sold compound that I played a part in preparing ahead of sale. Wilsons Auctions has offered a good training provision and physical working conditions. Working alongside vehicles is a dream come true!”

Paddy O’Neill, Yard Manager at Wilsons Auctions Telford commented, “Shortly after completing his GCSEs, Rhys joined the team ahead of starting college in September. It is fantastic to see Wilsons Auctions supporting a young person in the workplace, offering valuable hands-on experience.”

“Rhys has been an esteemed member of the team, job shadowing his peers and gaining skills that will help him with his future prospects. Rhys’ work placement will help build skills, responsibility and confidence whilst contributing towards independence. I am hopeful that he will continue to now take on at least one day a week here at Wilsons Auctions as a member of part-time staff alongside his studies.”
