Wilsons Auctions is preparing to auction the impressive Drumcharry House, a category ‘B’ listed building set in 2.5 acres of rural Perthshire with a guide price of £550,000.
The unique and charismatic property, built in 1834, will go to auction on boasts original features including turrets, oak wood panelling throughout, a 12ft spectacular stained glass window, ornate fireplace in the inner hall, viewing galleries as well as an adjoining six bedroom apartment with its own private entrance and driveway.
The charming building which offers instant warmth and character, is in need of some care and would make an ideal restoration project. It covers 1,500 square metres of living space with 69 rooms split over three floors. Externally the property has spectacular grounds with extensive mature gardens offering a mixture of lawn, shrubbery and trees.
With a historical Scottish background, Drumcharry House was the childhood home of Major General David Stewart, a key figure in the early history of the Black Watch Regiment before being passed to Major General Archibald Campbell, who led the British Army in the 1st Anglo Burmese War and was also a Napoleonic War Veteran. In 1880 the property was owned by Sir Donald Currie MP who was the founder of the Union Castle Shipping Line, the Knight of the Garter and MP for Perthshire.
